«That’s what Ronny would have wanted»

Five days after the tragic training accident of Cottbus’s Ronny Ziesmer, the German gymnasts passed their last test for the Olympic games in Athens. For all parties, this was the most important aspect of the meet with Romania and Italy, held on Saturday in southern Germany (Schwäbisch-Gmünd). The previous Monday the 24-year old Ziesmer had broken his neck during an unlucky double twist on vault, and is now paralysed from the neck down. «The greatest achievement of our team was that they stood up and competed,“ said an obviously still deeply depressed national coach Andreas Hirsch. «Because of these problems every gymnast today left out individual elements, or competed only a part of a routine. And these problems are not overcome. I can definitely say this.»

Holidays With Raducan
 
You are having a hard time deciding where to spend your summer holidays-- lying on the beach would be too boring and spending a few days going shopping in Paris or London too expensive. No problem, gymworld has another idea for you… Andreea Raducan is back in Germany, though this time it has nothing to do with competing gymnastics. Gymworld met her at the large international tourism fair “ITB” in Berlin where she represented the company CMB TRAVEL, where she has already been working for a couple of months. Seeming a bit exhausted after a long working-week at the busy ITB, Andreea was nonetheless as charming and as friendly as ever. She was happy to have a chat with gymworld about her new career plans...

Bulgarians Win At Home
Jordan Jovchev and Nikolina Tankusheva won the men's and women's AA respectively at a recent international invitational in Varna, Bulgaria. One of the most traditional international competitions in Europe, the meet was formerly called "Golden Sands" and has resurfaced with new sponsors and in a new arena. Jovchev, who resides in the USA, totalled 55,300 for the all-around crown.

Marius Urzica is living in divorce from his wife since one month +++ On August 15th, British gym photographer Rowena Humphreys (nee Pearce) gave birth to a baby boy. Finn Eddie was 2700g when he was born. Congratulations to the happy parents +++ Also pregant is Olga Teslenko, former Ukrainian elite gymnast. Her child was expected in late August +++ Mohini Bhardwaj is trying a comeback for 2004. At woodward west she was doing front handspring double fronts, full ins in layout, double arabians, and double doubles on the rod floor. On bars she did geinger and pak fulls and beam side somis, front aerials, bhs layout layout and a double front dismount. Vault she did dty and yurchenko full on back layout off +++ Elena Produnova will make a come-back beside the podium at 2003 Anaheim Worlds. But not as a gymnast - the 23-year-old former elite gymnast from Rostov-na-Donu takes part as a coach in the Russian team +++ The probably next governer of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, promised to give a visit to the Austrian gymnastics team, the Austrian federation ÖFT announced in a press-info.
