The Slovenian juniors
won the team and AA titles at a tri-meet, held December
1st in the Czech town of Brno. 15-year-old Maja Hribar lead
her team to a convincing victory over the host team and
Germany and also scored the highest AA total of 34,050.
Czech gymnasts Jana Sikulová and Romana Malácová
placed second and third in the individual ranking. Hribar's
coaches Mitija Samardzija and Poljanka Pavletic were happy
with their pupil's competition, especially considering the
fact that she is still recovering from a neck injury sustained
after a scary fall on vault a few weeks ago. "Maja
is still not at her best, but she is regaining her strength
after the injury," Pavletic said.
The Siska Gym Club in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana,
where Hribar and her team mates Petra Rus and Taja Levic
train, recently suffered an anthrax scare when a letter
containing white powder was sent to the gym. Coaches called
the police, and after an in depth investigation by health
inspectors and mircobiologists, the letter was classified
as a fraud. The entire building had to be shut down for
a week and gymnasts and coaches had to be brought to hospital
for a series of tests.
