Verona van de Leur
and Berber van den Berg took the senior and junior AA titles
respectively, at the Hypotheekshop Gymnastics Cup held in
Zoetermeer December 1. Hosted by the Pro Patria club, the
competition was a bit chaotic at times with a restless audience.
Van de Leur seemed a bit titred after a long competitive
season, but noetheless competed well to take the title.
The two young Romanians showed promise, Monica Rosu gave
the title away with two falls from beam. On bars, Monica
Rosu showed a clean and good Gienger while Madalina Rapenau
fell off and had have her bleeding hands treated. Lilia
Podkopayeva (picture on the left) was present as a judge
for the Ukrainian delegation and was interviewed. She said
she fulfilled her dream by winning the Olympics. She likes
to be a judge because that way she's still involved in gymnastics.
Oksana Chusovitina placed fourth, the organising committee
volunteered to pay for her and her coach's accomodation
when they learned the pair had planned to stay in a youth
hostel.
