Torn Ligaments, But: Ekaterina Lobaznyuk Back In Three Weeks?

Our Moscow correspondent Masha spoke on last day of Russian Championships to Leonid Arkayev, President of the Russian Gymnastics Federation and National Coach. He said, that Ekaterina has to undergo a surgery next days. "I talked to the doctor, who is a real specialist on his sector", he went on, "and now everything doesn't seem to be so serious for me anymore." He expects her to be back in three weeks. Other sources still expect a much longer time for her return to gymnastics.

Earlier News::

2000 Russian Olympian Ekaterina Lobaznyuk has probably torn her ligaments in her right knee. It all happend in the finals of Russian Championships: Lobaznyuk made her first vaulting attempt, a double-twisting Yurchenko. She seemed to land perfectly, but she didn't.

The 18-year old girl from Rubtsovsk in Sibiria broke down on the mat, had apparently serious pains. After first aid and with a heavily wrapped right leg, she was carried out on a stretcher and brought to hospital immediately. If the first diagnose will be confirmed she definatly can't take part at the 2001 Worlds in Ghent, Belgium and will be out from gymnastics for a minimum of six months, but more likely for about one year.

We keep you informed as soon as we can find out more.
